Khune: Competition is high in Bafana squad

Itumeleng Khune Khune: Competition is high in Bafana squad By Lunga Ntuli Aug 13, 2013 7:58:00 AM Bafana's number one Itumeleng Khune has acknowledged the hard work shown by his competitors, and stresses coach Gordon Igesund's challengeAlthough Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana keeper Khune was recently voted as the first ever South African to make the Goal 50 list, he is still humble about his success and respects his competitors. Speaking to the press in Durban, Khune stated that there is intense competition for places in the squad.“It really is hard for Igesund to select as there are many players who have raised the bar, and that makes it difficult to choose the best when they are all doing well,” said Khune. The captain said he is inspired and feels challenged by the performance of Senzo Meyiwa who once again performed heroics for Orlando Pirates in the Caf Champions League lately.Read more on: Nigeria arrive in Durban for Nelson Mandela Challenge against South Africa “It is really good to know that there are other guys who are doing well, so that when I am not around we won’t have a problem. Honestly the effort and standard raised by other goalkeepers is really good for the country,” he said. Going into the match against Nigeria on Wednesday, the Bafana skipper said they are going to take it one match at a time, including the Burkina Faso friendly and the Botswana World Cup qualifier. “We are going to take it one step at a time, but we are also hoping to use this match as preparation for the World Cup qualifiers. We have been given a second chance and so we must use it well,” he said. ---------------------- ZEENEWS.com
