Traffic stop birth

Traffic stop birth, Milwaukee police officers helped to deliver a baby during a traffic stop Wednesday night. It happened as police were monitoring traffic after opening day for an event called Summerfest. According to officials, police stopped the vehicle for speeding prior to the delivery.Officials say the couple was en route to the hospital — after mom went into labor while watching the fireworks.Officer Xavier Benitez and Adam Bradley thought they had a drunk on their hands as they gave chase to a speeding car.“We saw a red car just blowing through the red lights, blaring its horn,” Benitez said.“It took us like, 50 miles-an-hour to catch him in a two-block radius,” Bradley said. At first, what police saw and heard caused a bit of confusion.“We heard a female moaning in pain,” Bradley said. That’s when police jumped into action — delivering a baby near St. Paul and Water Street.“As I approached, I saw she was actually giving birth. The head was fully crowned and everything. At that point I yelled across to my partner, ‘we’re having a baby!’” Benitez said.North Avenue was blocked for Summerfest’s fireworks, and the area was congested due to Summerfest traffic. Officers knew there wasn’t enough time to get to the hospital. Two minutes later, a baby girl was born. I was basically playing the catcher and Isabella came out. I immediately tried to clear the airways and remove the umbilical cord. My partner’s assisting, flicking on the feet to get a response,” Benitez said.Paramedics and other squads showed up, put the baby in a blanket and whisked the mom and baby to Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital.“We were kind of both in awe. I recently am a father, so I kind of know what was happening,” Benitez said. The officers took the baby’s dad, and 5-year-old sibling, who was also in the car, to the hospital to join mom and baby.“I was gleaming ear to ear,” Benitez said. I’ve been at plenty of shooting scenes. We’ve taken plenty of people into custody, but to be able to bring a life into the world, it’s just amazing,” Bradley said. The officers who helped out Wednesday night were able to visit with Isabella and her family, and say all are doing great.

Nobleman vs. Sharks Game 4: Score, Twitter Reaction and Analysis.

From rough visit to La, the San Jose Sharks have roared back about the Kings in the American Conference semifinals, posting a 2-1 victory on Tuesday to even the line.

The Sharks took control six minutes into the game when Brent Burns scored for the 15-foot slap shot off assists from Joe Thornton and T. J. Galiardi.

At this 13: 19 mark, a Kings' Colin Fraser ended up being whistled for hooking Meat Marleau. But the Sharks were only capable to get off one shot on goal in the ensuing power play, as numerous attempts were blocked by La.

At the 15: 26 mark, San Jose experienced another power play when Drew Doughty got several minutes for slashing Marc-Edouard Vlasic. But despite three shots on goal to your Sharks (including an eight-footer just by Galiardi), the Kings came up unscathed.

After the earliest period, San Jose is leading 1-0. The Kings rarely threatened inside first 20 minutes, only getting off three shots on mission. On the flip edge, the Sharks got shut off 15 shots on mission, testing Los Angeles goaltender Jonathan Quick's reflexes. The Sharks also won 17-of-22 faceoffs in the period.

At the 3: 14 mark inside second period, Fraser was all over again whistled. This time, they got two minutes designed for roughing Andrew Desjardins.

The Sharks made sure to capitalize on their third power play for the game, as Dan Boyle's 54-foot slap shot with the 3: 55 mark was deflected on the net by Logan Couture. Boyle together with Joe Pavelski got that assists.

Los Angeles was granted its first power play of the game at the 8: thirty three mark when Galiardi had been whistled for interference. However , despite receiving an opening, the Kings only managed one shot relating to the man advantage.

At a 16: 58 mark, this Sharks' Scott Hannan ended up being whistled for interference, setting up another power-play opportunity to your Kings. But again, the Kings weren't in a position to capitalize, getting off simply two shots (zero concerning goal).

Both teams battled between before the Kings' Matt Greene was handed two minutes for high-sticking Couture at the 5: 18 mark. In the power play, the Sharks were not able to score, only moving away from one shot that had been blocked.

Burns displayed poor judgment within the 8: 14 mark, boarding Anze Kopitar while using Sharks trying to close up the game.

It became costly, as Los Angeles finally executed over the man advantage. Mike Richards was the person who narrowed the Sharks' lead, swinging home a five-foot arm shot on assists with Jeff Carter and Kopitar.

But, despite some scoring opportunities for this Kings down the stretch out, they ultimately weren't capable to tie up the performance.

Sharks goaltender Antti Niemi saved almost one of Los Angeles' 23 shots on goal. Effective was also outstanding (21-of-23), but was saddled along with the loss.

The Sharks have squared in the series at two matches apiece. Game 5 are going to be played on Thursday with Staples Center.

Wimbledon Preview

The second slam in tennis, Wimbledon, is set to begin on Monday. This the most storied event in all of tennis should be another exciting tourney. Remember, we've had some epic matches recently on the grass, including the Murray/Federer final last year in both this event and the Olympics. And in general, tennis is in a good spot after we all got to see the epic Djokovic/Nadal match in the French Open.YET I'M PISSED!I complained during the French Open that Djokovic and Nadal should have been seeded 1, 2, and be placed on opposite sides of the draw. PLUS, I've always hated the random nature of placing the 3-4 seeds, then the 5-8 seeds, 9-16 seeds, etc. Place them in the freaking draw like a real tourney! 1 on top, 2 on the bottom, 3 in the other quarter on bottom, and 4 in a quarter up top, etc. PLUS, seed the players better. Nadal was clearly the top player heading into the French, or 2 at the minimum, yet he was seeded 3rd. STUPID! He was injured which is why his world ranking was down. Yet this year, he is dominating.AND NOTHING CHANGED FOR WIMBLEDON! IN FACT, IT'S WORSE.Andy Murray is making his return and got the 2 seed? Federer is still clinging onto #3. Ferrer got the 4th seed because he passed Nadal in the world rankings when he got raped by him in the French final? And yes, the best player currently in the world is seeded 5th... that's Nadal. And you know what's worse? Nadal is in Federer's quarter and they will meet in the quarterfinals. Andy Murray is with them too and will play the winner in the semifinals. Djokovic gets a walk to the final, assuming he beats the only decent player up there, Ferrer, in the semis. Even Tsonga is on bottom in the loaded section. It's absurd!!!I was fully expecting Nadal to win this event, but now I doubt he'll be able to go through Federer, Murray, and then Djokovic in three straight matches. So I'll go with Novak simply due to his generous draw. But something obviously needs to change when ranking players and seeding them. Cause the draw is simply ridiculous.Oh and I was going to predict a big tourney from John Isner, but he's got Nadal in the fourth round. That's rough for both of them. And that's only if Isner can get past Wawrinka in the third. Tough stuff!Briefly on the girls... If Serena doesn't win, I'll shave my head!By: The Sports GuysPS: Greg, I really won't shave my head but I'd be floored if Serena loses.

Fulham approve long-term kit sponsorship tackle adidas - Soccerlens.

Looking for a gap of ten years, Fulham have brought adidas back up to speed as the official technical kit supplier with the club. The club announced on Friday as well as a long-term partnership deal with adidas has been signed.

Since the end associated with a six-year partnership with adidas around 2003, Fulham have possessed four kit suppliers – The puma company, Airness, Nike and Kappa. Every one of these deals were short term with the longest running for just three years.

It has been a trait with which has featured in Fulham history dating back to 1974. Fulham never have been able to generate a long-term kit supplier deal in support of adidas have come forth and offered Fulham deals longer than four years.

Their first partnership began in 1977 once they took over from Umbro and yes it ran for four a long time, till 1981. Then it was eventually not until 1997 that adidas returned as the official kit supplier. After a lot of two to three year deals in the years, Fulham sticked by using adidas for six a long time until Puma took across in 2003.

Fulham join a privileged list of clubs who profit from a partnership with adidas. Clubs like Real Madrid, AIR CONDITIONERS Mila, Bayern Munich, and also other Premier League teams enjoy Chelsea, Liverpool, etc.

"The synergy between the 2 main organisations has led to a partnership that promises either brands a platform on which to gain success. "

"Fulham is a especially welcome partner to adidas' formidable portfolio of football irons both globally and the european union.

There's no official word on the financial value of that deal but with the top-four for the Premier League striking huge commercial deals recently, Fulham probably would not have settled for anything lower than a decent sum.

Also joining team adidas out of next year are To the west Ham who signed a deal which will see adidas as their kit supplier until 2015. The following year, adidas will manufacture kits for Arsenal as well.

Spurs Take Series Lead With Game 5 Win

SAN ANTONIO -- Manu Ginobili ran onto the floor as fans stood and screamed. He went to the bench, and they chanted his name. The sights and sounds of so many San Antonio spring nights were back Sunday night -- and the real party might be just a few days away.Ginobili broke out of a slump in a big way with 24 points and 10 assists in his first start of the season, and the Spurs beat the Miami Heat 114-104 to take a 3-2 lead in the NBA Finals.Tony Parker scored 26 points, Tim Duncan had 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Ginobili had his highest-scoring game of the season as the Spurs became the first team to shoot 60 percent in a finals game in four years."He's such a huge part of what we do and how far we've come. You can see it tonight in how we played and the results of the game," Duncan said. "We're always confident in him. ... We know he has it in him. We hope he can bring it forward for one more win."Danny Green smashed the NBA Finals record for 3-pointers, hitting six more and scoring 24 points. Kawhi Leonard finished with 16, but the stage was set when Ginobili trotted out with Duncan, Parker and the rest of starters in what could have been the last Finals home game for a trio that's meant so much to San Antonio. One more victory and the Spurs' Big Three, not Miami's, will be the one that rules the NBA.And a big reason was Ginobili, as he's been for so long -- just not during what had been a miserable series for the former Sixth Man of the Year."I was angry, disappointed," Ginobili said."We are playing in the NBA Finals, we were 2-2, and I felt I still wasn't really helping the team that much," Ginobili said. "And that was the frustrating part."On Sunday, it was all forgotten."He's obviously very popular. He's been here a long time. He's helped us have a lot of success over the years," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said.LeBron James and Dwyane Wade each scored 25 points for the Heat, who host Game 6 on Tuesday night. They need a victory to force the first Game 7 in the Finals since the Lakers beat the Celtics in 2010.Miami's Big Three formed a few weeks after that game, with predictions of multiple titles to follow. Now they're a loss away from going just 1 for 3 in Finals to start their partnership, while the Spurs could run their perfect record to 5 for 5."This is the position we're in and the most important game is Game 6," James said. "We can't worry about a Game 7, we have to worry about Game 6."Duncan won his first title in 1999, and Parker and Ginobili were with him for three championships since. They have been the perfect partnership, keeping the Spurs in the hunt virtually every year while teams like the Lakers, Mavericks and Suns have all risen and fallen in the Western Conference during that time. They remained unbeaten in Game 5s, including two previous victories when the series was tied at 2-2. Of the 27 times the Finals have been tied at 2-2, the Game 5 winner has won 20 of them.Miami was the most recent loser, falling to Dallas in Game 5 in 2011 before being eliminated at home the next game."We're going to see if we're a better ballclub and if we're better prepared for this moment," Wade said.San Antonio shot 42 of 70, right at 60 percent. The last team to make 60 percent of its shots in the Finals was Orlando, which hit 62.5 in Game 3 against the Lakers in 2009, according to STATS."They just absolutely outplayed us," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "At times they were just picking one guy out at a time and going at us mano-a-mano. That's got to change."Ray Allen scored 21 points on the night for the Heat as he watched Green shatter his finals 3-point record. Green has 25 3s in the series. Allen made 22 3-pointers in six games in the 2008 Finals for Boston.Chris Bosh scored 16 for Miami, Wade had 10 assists, and James had eight assists and six rebounds, but it was their defense that let the Heat down in this one.The Heat were within one with 3:05 left in the third before Green hit yet another 3-pointer and Ginobili followed with the stretch that turned the game into the fourth straight blowout of the finals. The crafty lefty plays with a flair developed on the courts of Argentina and perfected in Europe before coming to the NBA. He sees angles other players can't and takes risks few others would, but his style has been the perfect fit alongside Duncan and Parker. He converted a three-point play, tossed in a floater with his left hand as he drifted right, and found Tiago Splitter under the hoop with a pass to make it 85-74. He flipped in another runner with 2.9 seconds to go, sending the Spurs to the fourth with an 87-75 lead as fans chanted "Manu! Manu!" during the break between the third and fourth quarters.Ginobili had been averaging just 7.5 points on 34.5 percent shooting in the series, making only three of his 16 3-point attempts. But Popovich made the Finals' second lineup change in two games, after the Heat inserted Mike Miller to start Game 4.Ginobili didn't make a start this season and certainly hadn't been playing like someone who belonged with the first five. But in the Spurs' biggest game of the season, they remained confident he would break out, and they were right."I knew that I was not scoring much and I felt it in the air. But I tried not to care about it. I know I'm critical enough of myself to be worrying about what other people say," Ginobili said.It was the first time he scored 24 or more points since having 34 on June 4, 2012, against Oklahoma City, according to STATS.The AT&T Center crowd roared when Ginobili was the last starter announced, the cheers growing louder when he made a jumper -- originally ruled a 3-pointer but later overturned by replay -- on the first possession. He assisted on the Spurs' next three baskets, and it was 15-10 when he later hit a 3 that did count.Parker picked it up from there, dancing his way into the lane repeatedly and scoring seven points in a 12-0 run that made it 29-17. Leonard's 3-pointer with 4.7 seconds left, on an assist from Ginobili, made it 32-19 and gave the Spurs 12 makes in 19 attempts (63 percent) in the opening 12 minutes.Green's third straight 3-pointer made it 45-28 about 5 minutes into the second quarter, and it seemed the trend of blowouts would continue. But James suddenly got rolling during a 14-2 Miami spurt that cut it to five on his third consecutive Heat basket.San Antonio made 21 of 34 shots (62 percent) in the first half, opening a 61-52 lead on Parker's drive with 0.4 seconds left.Miami then ran off eight in a row to start the second half and get within one. They cut it to one again later in the period before Ginobili led the flurry that finished the Heat for good.It was a fitting finish if it was the last home game in the finals for San Antonio's star trio, which has combined for 101 playoff victories together. Ginobili has said he might think about retirement as he turns 36 next month, and Duncan is 37.Both coaches said it was difficult waiting two days between games -- Popovich said it was "like death" -- though he did say it was great for the Spurs because they have some older players. The break seemed to help his team early, particularly Parker, whose energy sagged in the second of Game 4 as he struggled with a strained hamstring that he said could tear at any time and would've had him sidelined during the regular season. If things fall right for the Spurs, he'll have plenty of time to heal after Tuesday.Game notes:The last team to lose Game 5 of a 2-2 series and then win the title was the Los Angeles Lakers, when they beat Boston in 2010. ... The Spurs said Sunday that reserve guard Patty Mills had surgery to remove an abscess Friday and would miss the rest of the series. Mills had an infection in his right foot and the abscess developed between his fourth and fifth toes.SOURCE: ESPN

Blood money saves 2 Chennaiites from gallows in Kuwait

Execution in Kuwait (June 18, 2013)Just 2 days before they were to go under the executioner's blade in Kuwait's central prison last week, 2 Indians -- Suresh Shanmugasundram and Chellapan Kalidas -- got a reprieve, after paying blood money to relatives of their alleged murder victim, a Sri Lankan citizen. The duo, both of them residents of Chennai, had been arrested along with a Sri Lankan woman, Premila Rekki for the murder of another Sri Lankan woman S Masudha.According to sources, the Indian embassy had started to provide assistance to the two Chennai residents and helped them to engage a lawyer, Haider Dashti. After their arrest in July 2008, it took the Kuwaiti judiciary 5 years to convict the 3 accused for the murder and awarded them capital punishment.Following the announcement of death penalty, the Indian embassy took up the matter with greater urgency and approached the office of the Emir of Kuwait. Similarly, the Ministry of External Affairs also took up the case with the Kuwaiti embassy here in New Delhi. Earlier this month, the duo were notified that they will be executed on June 18. The efforts made by the relatives and lawyers of the accused, along with the Indian diplomats in touch with the Kuwaiti authorities, further intensified. They were also in touch with the relatives of the killed Sri Lankan, as they negotiated a possible way out by payment of blood money. Finally, on June 16, the Kuwaiti authorities announced that the execution of the three accused had been suspended after the relatives of the Sri Lankan victim agreed to accept payment.According to sources, Chellapan Kalidas paid 600,000 Sri Lankan rupees (about Rs 2.77 lakh). However, the amount paid by Suresh is not known. The Indian embassy is now talking to the local authorities for the commuting of their sentence to a lower degree. Both the Indian nationals are currently lodged at the central prison in Kuwait.Source: New Indian Express, June 26, 2013

Federer: 'A much more complete player'

In 2003, Roger Federer took the court for his first-round match at The Championships against Hyung-Taik Lee, unaware that this Wimbledon encounter would ignite the start of a history-making career. On Monday, seven-time champion Federer opened his title defence in commanding fashion, brushing aside Victor Hanescu 6-3, 6-2, 6-0, and afterwards, reflected on his growth as a player since winning his first major title 10 years ago at the All England Club.“I just feel I'm stronger, because I was just starting to grow into a man's body back then, if you like, not quite sure how [enduring] I was on the court. I was not always quite sure tactically how to play,” Federer said. “Mentally, I still had that edge where I don't know if I could handle it at all times in every single match. That was something I was still trying to prove to myself.”“Today, because I'm stronger, because I have the experience, because I've played so much, I'm just overall a more complete player. In those 10 years, many things have changed: racquet technology, strings, balls, court speed. All these things have a big impact on the game. I also had to adjust accordingly to it.”Federer also discussed the evolution of the modern day tennis player and tactics, and how players need to be prepared to adapt in order to maintain their standing among the game’s elite.“In the process, other players came on the tour. There were less serve and volley players, less chip and charge players and more baseline players. You have to adjust,” said Federer. “If the game went into serve and volley, that's what I would be doing today, too. I just had to adjust to the circumstances. Honestly, as a tennis player, you can never stop working on something. I always believe all of your strengths need work and all your weaknesses also need work.”The Swiss superstar is aiming to win a record eighth Wimbledon crown and is seeking his 18th major title overall. Though he had a 5-0 Head 2 Head record against Hanescu entering their meeting, Federer said he was prepared for anything to happen.“I pack my bags anyway for five sets every single time,” Federer said. “So I'm happy that things went well out there today.  I mean, in the first round, we've seen the surprise losses happen too often.  I was always going to give credit to Victor.”Date: 24th June 2013, Source: ATP

Texas abortion law

Texas abortion law, A sweeping bill that would effectively shut down most abortion clinics across the nation's second most-populous state has stalled in the Texas Senate, and a Democratic filibuster that will only need to last a seemingly manageable 13 hours Tuesday looks like it will be enough to talk the hotly contested measure to death.Hundreds of abortion rights supporters are crowding the Texas Senate Gallery today to oppose new restrictions due for a vote in the final hours of a special legislative session. After thwarting two attempts Monday by majority Republicans to bring the abortion bill to a floor vote ahead of its scheduled time Tuesday morning, Democrats are turning to Sen. Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth, to stage the marathon speech."We want to do whatever we can for women in this state," said Sen. Kirk Watson of Austin, leader of the Senate Democrats. The bill would ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy and force many clinics that perform the procedure to upgrade their facilities and be classified as ambulatory surgical centers. Also, doctors would be required to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles -- a tall order in rural communities.Although Texas is just the latest of several conservative states to try to enact tough limits on abortions, the scope of its effort is notable because of the combination of bills being considered and the size of the state. When combined in a state 773 miles wide and 790 miles long and with 26 million people, the measures would become the most stringent set of laws to impact the largest number of people in the nation."If this passes, abortion would be virtually banned in the state of Texas, and many women could be forced to resort to dangerous and unsafe measures," said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund and daughter of the late former Texas governor Ann Richards.Outnumbered 19-11 -- with San Antonio Sen. Leticia Van de Putte missing to attend the funeral of her father, who died last week in a car crash -- Senate Democrats held firm Monday to their razor-thin margin of a single vote to block the bill from moving forward. That's key since the 30-day special legislative session ends at midnight Tuesday, meaning the filibuster Democrats have promised only needs to last the better part of one day, instead of two.Davis gave a filibuster at the end of the 2011 session to temporarily block $5.4 billion cuts to public schools, and said she was preparing for her upcoming speech but refused to say exactly how.She will have to speak nonstop, remain standing, refrain from bathroom breaks or even leaning on anything. Other Democrats can give her voice a break by offering questions to keep conversation moving."Democrats chose not to negotiate, and we could not get the block undone," said Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, a Republican who controls the flow of Senate legislation. He refused to declare the issue dead -- but others were less optimistic.Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston, said the Democrats never should have been allowed to put Republicans "in a box" and complained that many in the Senate GOP were "flying by the seat of their pants."But the bill's bogging down began with Gov. Rick Perry, who summoned lawmakers back to work immediately after the regular legislative session ended May 27, but didn't add abortion to the special session to-do list until late in the process. The Legislature can only take up issues at the governor's direction during the extra session. Then, House Democrats succeeded in stalling nearly all night Sunday, keeping the bill from reaching the Senate until 11 a.m. Monday. The measure only passed the lower chamber after a raucous debate that saw more than 800 women's rights activists pack the public gallery and surrounding Capitol, imploring lawmakers not to approve it.While supporters say it will protect women's health, abortion rights groups warn the practical effect of the bill would be to shutter most abortion providers statewide -- making it very difficult for Texas women to have the procedure.Debate ranged from lawmakers waving coat-hangers on the floor and claiming the new rules are so draconian that women are going to be forced to head to drug war-torn Mexico to have abortions, to the bill's sponsor, Republican Rep. Jodie Laubenberg, errantly suggesting that emergency room rape kits could be used to terminate pregnancies. Laubenberg represents Texas District 89, which covers portions of Collin County in North Texas, and is based in Parker. In the end, though, the bill passed by more than 60 votes as Republicans and some conservative Democrats approved it.Still, Legislature rules prohibit the Senate from taking up a bill for 24 hours after it clears the House. Republicans struggled to find a way to break the Democratic roadblock, but the vote swung Monday on Sen. Eddie Lucio, a Brownsville Democrat who voted for the abortion bill when it first passed the Senate a week ago but pledged not to approve suspending the rule with Republicans unless Van de Putte was able to make it to the chamber. She didn't show and Lucio voted with his party, despite his support for the bill.If the abortion restrictions go down, other measures could fall with it. A proposal to fund major transportation projects as well as a bill to have Texas more closely conform with a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision banning mandatory sentences of life in prison without parole for offenders younger than 18 might not get votes. Current state law only allows a life sentence without parole for 17-year-olds convicted of capital murder.Watson said Democrats are willing to pass the transportation and 17-year-old sentencing measures but won't budge on abortion."Let's get those up, let's get those out of here," Watson said. "Let's not make these victims of red-meat politics."Patrick said that if the filibuster succeeds, he hopes Perry will summon lawmakers back for a second or even third special session."If the majority can't pass the legislation that they believe is important and the people believe is important," he said, "than that's of great concern to me."
